Business Development (Internal Sales)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Internal Business Development Salesperson to join Murray Steel, based at our sales office in Sheffield. This role will involve working within our sales office, developing the existing customer base and the growth of new business.

The successful candidate will be of graduate standard and must have the drive and ambition to grow their sales career within the steel industry. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate.

The role of Internal Business Development

To achieve agreed sales targets and grow market share through development of existing customer
base and strategic new business

  • Identify key decision makers of new clients through direct communication by telephone calls, emails, and professional networking.
  • Promote key products and added value services by Identifying & targeting specific industry sectors.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients to expand sales

  • Respond to enquiries and preparing accurate written presentations, reports, and price quotations in a timely manner

  • Use relevant database to provide required information on stock availability

  • To identify, build and develop new business within Murray Steel Products Markets

  • Liaise with Commercial manager on any issues/opportunities with new and existing customer base

  • Ensure accounts trade within the agreed credit limits

  • To assist the commercial team as and when required

  • To maintain KPI’s and assist with the production of statistics for sales performing on a weekly/monthly basis

  • To help ensure commercial targets are met

summer, is further enhanced by the UK’s most expansive stocks of reversing mill plate and our
ability to supply the complete package of Structural Sections, either fully processed or stock lengths.

We now have exciting opportunities for experienced Salespeople to join Murray Steels working on a
hybrid basis, or from one of our offices dependent on location, covering sales into Northern Ireland
and Republic of Ireland.

The successful candidate(s) should have previous steel stockholding and processing experience in a
similar environment and have the drive and ambition to grow their sales career within the steel
industry. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate.

Graduate - Business Marketing Executive

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Business Marketing Executive to join Murray Steel Products an expanding company which is a market leading stockholder, processor, and distributor of high-quality steel products.

Based either at our Sheffield or Manchester offices, working with the Sales Management team the successful candidate will drive the development of the products, through marketing of current business and sales capabilities, researching current markets and trends, developing new business both regionally and by product.

The candidate will ideally be a graduate of engineering or business.

The main tasks include:

  • Detailed research into market trends, products, and new customers

  • Actively market the business and products seeking new business

  • Lead on the development of our social media presence

  • Devise strategies to drive online traffic & continuing to improve usability, design, content, and conversion, in conjunction with the commercial team.

  • Identify and contact new customers

  • Achieve monthly targets as set in conjunction with management

  • Continually seek opportunities to promote “Added Value”

  • Promotion of all group products to customers

  • Preparing reports on new customers.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Night Shift CNC Operator

Do you want to work for a successful and continuously growing company? Are you looking for a position with an immediate start, in a fast-paced environment?

Due to growth and expansion, we now require a full-time permanent CNC Operative based at our site in Middlesbrough. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing quality machined & cut steel parts to customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Operation of plasma arc, oxyfuel & CNC machinery.

  • Opportunity to train on other machines.

  • Drilling / machining experience would be advantageous.

  • Working in a heavy engineering environment.

  • FLT / overhead crane experience preferable

  • Safe use of all machinery at all times

  • Working to tight deadlines.

  • Accurately complete production paperwork

  • Mark incoming steel with unique identification data

  • Pre-pick steel plate ready for production, move plate to and from stock and move plate to and from process equipment using remote controlled overhead cranes.

  • To carry out a variety of different duties if required, as set by the Operations Manager

  • To maintain the company’s health & safety standards at all times, including general housekeeping duties such as keeping your workstation tidy.

  • Dressing and grinding of burnt profiles and inspecting the quality of all products prior to packaging for dispatch.

  • Load and unload vehicles.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A positive attitude and are willing to learn more skills on the job.

  • Confidence on the job and are happy to take on more responsibility if necessary.

  • Experience in profile burning.

  • We are looking for a motivated individual with keen eye for detail and good numeracy skills.

  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred).
  • CNC: 2 years (required).

Shift Pattern

  • The role will be weekly night shift 4.30pm – 4am Monday to Thursday

  • Overtime when available

HGV Driver

Murray Steel Products is one the UK's leading stockist of commercial grade steel plate, profiles, and structural sections.

We now have an opportunity for a HGV Driver Class 1 to join the busy Operations team based at one of our sites in Sheffield, Middlesbrough or Scunthorpe.

Successful candidate will be expected to deliver products in line with the agreed load plan and customer requirements in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Tasks:

  • Assist in the loading of outbound vehicles in order of delivery priority, ensuring material is loaded and secured safely. Including on site trailer shunting

  • Work with the load planner to achieve the most efficient routing, number of drops, mileage and time

  • Work within and according to the driver hours regulations (record all hours)

  • Take responsibility for the load’s legal compliance and security

  • Operate OH cranes, Side loaders and Forklift trucks to safely move material around the warehouse

  • Drives in accordance with delivery schedule, safely and optimised fuel economy

  • To carry out and report routine daily vehicle defect checks

  • Manage fuel consumption ensuring receipts match odometer readings

  • Work in accordance with standard Works and Health and Safety procedures at all times.

Key Skills:

  • Appropriate clean HGV Class 1 license
  • Experience of Steel environment
  • Safe vehicle loading security and weight distribution
  • Experience of wide loads on flat bed trailers
  • Driver CPC Holder
  • FLT/ Side loader experience (would be an advantage).

The successful candidate will be required to provide administrative support to both Sales and Operational sides of our business.

Summary of Role:

Accurately keying in of data, dealing with external and internal administrative enquiries, and producing documents to the required standard and carry out any other administration duty when requested.

Main Duties:

  • Sales order acknowledgements / Quote Maintenance / Cancellation

  • Sales Order maintenance

  • Raise purchasing enquiries and purchase requisitions

  • Input and convert orders & quotes

  • Answer the telephone

  • Running and completing reports

  • General administration duties

  • Working as part of admin team ensure the sales process runs smoothly between Sales and Operations.

The successful candidate should have experience of working in an office environment. Key attributes of this person should include:

  • Good computer skills
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Minimum of 2 years’ administration experience.
