Business Development (Industry Experienced)

Our continued investment in the latest state of the art plate processing equipment, completed this
summer, is further enhanced by the UK’s most expansive stocks of reversing mill plate and our
ability to supply the complete package of Structural Sections, either fully processed or stock lengths.
We now have exciting opportunities for experienced Salesperson to join Murray Steels working on a
hybrid basis, or from one of our offices dependent on location.

The successful candidate(s) should have previous steel stockholding and processing experience in a
similar environment and have the drive and ambition to grow their sales career within the steel
industry. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate.

The role of Business Development (Industry Experienced):

  • Identify key decision makers of new clients through direct communication by telephone
    calls, emails, and professional networking.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients to expand sales.

  • Promote key products and added value services by identifying and targeting specific
    industry sectors.

  • Respond to enquiries and preparing accurate written presentations, reports, and price
    quotations in a timely manner.

  • Ensure commercial targets are met.

  • Liaise with Commercial Director / product leads on any issues/opportunities with new
    and existing customer base.

  • Use relevant database to provide required information on stock availability.

  • Ensure accounts trade within the agreed credit limits.

  • Maintain accurate and up to date customer databases and statistics.

Candidates must have:

  • A knowledge of steel plate, plate processing and structural sections is essential.
  • An ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent communication skills – internal and external.
  • Be highly organised and methodical.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Understanding the customers' needs.
  • 3 + years sales experience required.

Job Types: This is a full-time permanent role with an excellent package for the right candidate.
Hours of work 8.30am to 5:30pm Monday – Thursday and 8:30am to 4:30pm Friday.

Salary: Excellent remuneration package for the right candidate.

Business Development (Internal Sales)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Internal Business Development Salesperson to join Murray Steel, based at our sales office in Sheffield. This role will involve working within our sales office, developing the existing customer base and the growth of new business.

The successful candidate will be of graduate standard and must have the drive and ambition to grow their sales career within the steel industry. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate.

The role of Internal Business Development:

Stock Controller

(Structural Steel - Scunthorpe)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Stock Controller to join Murray Steel, based at our site in Scunthorpe. This role will involve working at our distribution facility, maintaining stock integrity both physically and within our IT system along with ensuring processes are followed and developed.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar steel environment and must have the drive and ambition to grow their career within the steel industry. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate.

The Role of the Stock Controller:

To ensure materials are received, identified, and despatched accurately and cost effectively to meet customer requirements, along with ensuring the stockholding facility is maintained to a high standard.

  • To manage the administration of stock both inbound, stored, and outbound accurately within our stock system and ensure documentation is accurately filed and safely stored.
  • To supervise the stock and all processes connected with it, in line with our working practices.
  • To ensure incoming material complies with ordered requirements and is clearly identifiable.
  • To identify and report any damaged material upon receipt and arrange / safely transfer the material to the appropriate locations for rectification.
  • To identify cut items in accordance with the customer’s requirements and ensure stock allocation in line with company policy.
  • To load plan, prioritise picking / loading requirements and liaise with hauliers.
  • To check loaded vehicles against load lists for accuracy prior to dispatch, ensuring material is loaded correctly and secured safely.
  • To work in accordance with standard Works and Health and Safety procedures at all times.
  • To monitor the external storage environment is clean and tidy.
  • To undertake any other duties as required by the Operations Manager.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A positive 'can do' attitude with a keen eye for detail.
  • Be highly organised and methodical.
  • Experience within a similar role.
  • An ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent communication skills – internal and external.

Job Types: This is a full-time permanent role with an excellent package for the right candidate.
Hours of work: 08.30am to 17:00pm Monday – Friday

Salary: Up to £28,500.

Steel Profiling Operative

Do you want to work for a successful and continuously growing company? Are you looking for a position with an immediate start, in a fast-paced environment?

Due to growth and expansion, we now require a full-time permanent Profile Operative based at our site in Middlesbrough. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing quality cut steel parts to customer specifications on profiling machinery.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Operation of gas and plasma arc machinery
  • Drilling / machining experience would be advantageous
  • Working in a heavy engineering environment
  • FLT / overhead crane experience preferable
  • Safe use of all machinery at all times
  • Working to tight deadlines
  • Accurately complete production paperwork
  • Mark incoming steel with unique identification data
  • Pre-pick steel plate ready for production, move plate to and from stock and move plate to and from process equipment using remote controlled overhead cranes.
  • To carry out a variety of different duties if required, as set by the Operations Manager
  • To maintain the company’s health & safety standards at all times, including general housekeeping duties such as keeping your workstation tidy
  • Dressing and grinding of burnt profiles and inspecting the quality of all products prior to packaging for dispatch
  • Load and unload vehicles.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A positive attitude and are willing to learn more skills on the job
  • Confidence on the job and are happy to take on more responsibility if necessary
  • Experience in profile burning 2 years (required)
  • We are looking for a motivated individual with keen eye for detail and good numeracy skills
  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred).

Shift Pattern

  • The role will be weekly night shift 4.30pm – 4am Monday to Thursday
  • Overtime when available

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: From £11.55 per hour (inclusive of shift allowance).

HGV Driver

Murray Steel Products is one the UK's leading stockist of commercial grade steel plate and profiles.

We now have an opportunity for a HGV Driver Class 1 to join the busy Operations team based at the site in Sheffield.

Successful candidate will be expected to deliver products in line with the agreed load plan and customer requirements in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Tasks:

  • Assist in the loading of outbound vehicles in order of delivery priority, ensuring material is loaded and secured safely. Including on site trailer shunting

  • Work with the load planner to achieve the most efficient routing, number of drops, mileage and time

  • Work within and according to the driver hours regulations (record all hours)

  • Take responsibility for the load’s legal compliance and security

  • Operate OH cranes, Side loaders and Forklift trucks to safely move material around the warehouse

  • Drives in accordance with delivery schedule, safely and optimised fuel economy

  • To carry out and report routine daily vehicle defect checks

  • Manage fuel consumption ensuring receipts match odometer readings

  • Work in accordance with standard Works and Health and Safety procedures at all times.

Key Skills:

  • Appropriate clean HGV Class 1 license
  • Experience of Steel environment
  • Safe vehicle loading security and weight distribution
  • Experience of wide loads on flat bed trailers
  • Driver CPC Holder
  • FLT/ Side loader experience (would be an advantage).
