Focus on Reversing Mill Plate

Benefits of reversing mill plate

Compared with material found on coils, reversing mill plates are initially cast into slabs which can then be reheated and re-rolled. This means we are then able to provide a customer with plate that is bespoke to the required thickness, size and tolerance they require for a specific project.

We are able to achieve sizes from 2m x 1m to 12m x 3m from stock with thicknesses from 2mm to 360mm, however we are also able to manufacture bespoke lengths up to 24m in length and 4m wide.

Our processing capabilities are extensive and include:

  • Steel bending services (section bending and press braking)
  • Profiling
  • Plasma cutting with true hole technology
  • Drilling
  • Chamfering
  • Ultrasonic and through thickness testing
  • Shotblasting and primer painting.

Grades

As one of the UK’s largest suppliers of steel plate and profiles, and structural steel, we have extensive stock levels of a range of steel grades including reversing mill plates including S275, S355, S460 and S690, some of which are outlined below:

S275 / S275JR / S275J0
S275 grade steel is a readily weldable low carbon manganese steel with good impact resistance (including in sub-zero temperatures).

This material is commonly supplied in the untreated or normalised condition and is available in several variations (e.g. S275JR and S275J0), which offer slight modifications of chemical composition and mechanical properties.

Typical applications for this product include construction, bridges, engineering, rail and energy.

S275

S355 / S355JR / S355J0
S355 grade steel is a medium tensile, low carbon manganese steel which is readily weldable and possesses good impact resistance (also in sub-zero temperatures).

As with S275 this grade is usually supplied in an untreated condition and in several variations.

Alongside being used in construction, engineering, rail and energy, it is also used in the manufacture of yellow goods and tanks.

S355

AR400 / AR450 / AR500
This range of abrasion resistant wear plate has a nominal hardness of 400, 450 or 500 HBW. This is a high carbon quenched and tempered steel with good weldability.

A key feature is the high strength and toughness with a guaranteed hardness - Brinell level. This material has good formability.

These grades are particularly suited to applications where harsh conditions are prevalent such as mining, agriculture and mechanical handling.
